Activision & Radical Have 11 More Reasons You Need Prototype 2, A Few Too Many Other Folks Have One Or Two Reasons You Don't...

Every time I see new footage of Radical's vastly improved sequel, I just have to smile. The team has pulled out all the stops and the game should definitely please fans of the original thanks to all the changes and improvements. Sure, some folks are complaining quite vocally about having to pre-order a premium edition of Prototype 2 to get that cool bonus DLC, but that's how things have worked for a while and as far as I'm seeing, it's not changing anytime soon, Still, it's kind of funny that no game publisher out there seems to have predicted any sort of major backlash against locking out disc content or only allowing those who have broadband connections to access "the good stuff". Me, I've been predicting a certain segment of would eventually have enough of this deal for years now, but no one listened back then. Now, it seems that anyone angry about DLC gets not an word listened to by those that can (and should) make things better for EVERYONE who wants to spend their hard-earned money on a new game.

Prototype 2 RADNET Edition Sparks Interest In Some, Annoyance In Others

Is the anti-DLC backlash a growing movement, a push-back against the now standard business practice the industry has been headed toward since the introduction of console download content or just the usual gang of fact-free "My opinion is the most important because on teh internets I am king!" whiners griping about games they're not that interested in buying in the first place? Perhaps a bit of all of the above and more. Sure, you can criticize Activision and Radical for making sure Prototype 2 has legs that keep the game's lifespan going long past the release and review hype. On the other hand, if you don't want to buy into the bonus content when the game ships, then you've not been paying attention to where the industry has been headed for a while now.

That said, you can also choose to not buy the game when it ships and perhaps wait for whatever repackaging the game will get should it sell well enough to reach Greatest Hits/Platinum hits status. Just keep your fingers crossed that Activision does what Rockstar did with the wonderful Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare (release that content first as DLC then as a standalone game followed by a complete version with every bit of content in a disc). Complain if you must, but at least do it in an informed manner rather than just shaking a digital fist at someone and thinking your insults will get you what you want. Then again, one could also say this business model shuts out those gamers who don't want to deal with download content at all, so there's that...

Radical's upcoming sequel is one of those games that had to be played just to see all the amazing improvements from the original. Remember, you get to kick the hell out of a helicopter (among other things) in this one (which is almost worth the price of the game alone, I say)...

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Trailer: MWOW3

Hyperbole-filled text aside, this does indeed look spectacular. Amusingly enough, I'm a LOT more intrigued about the single player campaign than the endless multiplayer modes and all the hype they generate. I really want to see how the story is told and what some of these shots in the trailer mean. Sure, it's probably not what 90% or more of the folks who plan to snap this up at launch are craving, but personally, I like a good STORY in my games. There's just no actual good reason for me to play games that require just running around and shooting people in the face for fun and points to spend on more stuff to run around and shoot people in the face faster. Sorry, kids... but for me, plot matters as much as gameplay, especially in a game where a large scale world war is the selling point.

Gamescom 2011: Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection Trailers

Yes, this new DLC pack has zombies galore, yes, you end up on the Moon at some point and YES, it'll sell like hotcakes just like the other content has. However, I STILL want Treyarch and Activision to slap ALL the Zombie DLC onto a disc and release it as well as whip up an entire game based on the Call of The Dead content. It's practically an instant hit given the massive fan base the franchise has and hell, zombies are still a hot property in games, so what's the downside here?

COD: Black Ops Escalation, Call Of The Dead Trailers

Call me Crazy (Of Duty), but I think Activision SHOULD have done Call Of The Dead as a FULL game structured as a series of three or four 1.5 to 2-hour long "movies", each telling a single, self-contained zombie story complete with cut scenes and plenty of film grain to emulate that 70's "grindhouse" style. Co-op and multiplayer modes plus a few "retro" themed arcade games would also have been pretty sweet additions, that's for sure...

Anyway, here are two trailers for the upcoming Xbox Live DLC (I guess PS3 will follow soon enough once those pesky PSN issues are dealt with). May 3, 2011 is the drop date and this looks to be a must-buy for Xbox Live users, zombie fans and COD fans worldwide...

I'm gathering this one's a 360 exclusive for a few different reasons, but anyway, cool trailer, huh? This DLC zips out on February 1, so get ready for more action... unless you're a PS3-only owner. I'd gather we'll see this content in some sort of GOTY package down the road for Sony's console.

Here's a quick look at COD: Black Ops' multiplayer in action. The three stages of single player campaign I saw last week was indeed incredible stuff, so it's great to see that Treyarch has kept the same high quality chaos fans of the series expect very much intact. There's no doubt this one's going t0 sell a few million right out of the gate.
