I'm absolutely NOT one of the whiny crowd crapping on Visceral's decision to add OPTIONAL co-op play to this sequel. I'm a fan of all the Dead Space games (yes, even Dead Space Extraction on the Wii and PS3, which did an excellent job at making an on-rails game really compelling, thrilling and scary). Hell, it will make me a lot less freaked out If I know I can have someone else to hind under the damn couch with when things get a wee bit too frightening. Anyway, this one's on track to be a big smash, provided the dev team can overcome the hurdle of dealing with that pissy part of the fan base that just doesn't like anything changing in their favorite games. Granted, if multiplayer is shoved in and makes for a bad time for all, then yes, you can indeed bash both SA and Visceral all you want - I'll be one of the first to wave the flag if they blow it.

E3 2012: Dead Space 3 Trailer: Frozen Properly, Keeping It Fresh Works...
It's hard as hell to keep a franchise going after a second installment because there's a damn good chance you've used up ALL your best ideas in coming up with the sequel. That said, the team at Visceral Games seems to have done a decent job in mapping out a timeline for their sci-fi horror franchise, and here you go. Co-op play (drop in/drop out) is the deal this time out, as is a frozen planet (which means outdoor environments!) and more Necromorphs than you can shake a stick at. Not that shaking a stick will do any good, mind you... 2013 is going to be a killer year for gaming, so you better hope those Mayans were way off in their "prediction". Me, I don't believe in that stuff, so I'll be waiting patiently for the release date so I can jump in and enjoy the ride being cooked up by Visceral and EA.

Mass Effect 3 "Take Earth Back" Trailers: Now, That's The Kind OF CGI I Can Get Behind...
BioWare is bringing their epic sci-fi RPG series to a close with Mass Effect 3 (or at least this particularly massive story arc) and over the last week, they've rolled out a few variations of the game's stunning trailer that's worth a look even if you're not into the game. Here are two of the longer versions to pore over in case you haven't yet seen them. I'd actually not mind at all of we saw a Mass Effect mini-series done this way that tells the story through all three games based on certain in game paths. Granted, the fans would fight like hell to see THEIR versions of Shepard as the hero instead of what a team of writers could come up with. On the other hand, I'd actually like to see a narrative that tells the entire saga in an episodic format (which could stretch out for a few seasons if it's accepted by the game's large user base)...

Syndicate Update: More Trailers Means More Reasons To Get The Game...
OK, I missed out on posting these and a few others earlier, but here you go, plus a music track remix below the jump. EA and Starbreeze have quite a sleeper hit in Syndicate that I hope is allowed room to draw in a following as opposed to being driven to the bargain bin because of ill-informed message board denizens that refuse to play the game or worse, compare it to other games that it isn't. Sure, there's nothing wrong with having an opinion at all. However, making your brain a fact-free zone just so you can become Lord of the Board over on some forums and spout out stuff that just isn't true just makes you miss out on a WHOLE lot of cool stuff. Sometimes, it's best to step down from the throne, shut up and get a controller in your hands so you can LEARN something. Or, hell at least be surprised that you were completely wrong while having some fun with something you hated far too much before you tried it. Just a thought...

Syndicate Launch Trailer: Corporations Are People... That Hire Other People To Kill More People...
It's just around the corner and yes, it's going to make some folks really happy. From what I got to play last week, The single player is tight and four player co-op is old-school challenging (in a good way - TEAMWORK will win the day, folks). Add in a killer soundtrack and some fine voice acting (Brian Cox and Rosario Dawson for starters) and this one's a sleeper and a keeper in my book. EA is also doing the smart thing by letting players jump into multiplayer with no online passes or DLC scheme locking out content, so this makes the game an automatic BUY in my book. SYNDICATE hits stores on February 21 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC - make sure to give it a look if you're still on the fence and you'll be truly surprised at how it's turned out...

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Is Out Now (And You Should Be Playing It)
Well, after spending a chunk of time with the game at EA's press event yesterday, I can very safely say that it's definitely much better than I thought it would be, particularly the fast-paced combat and level of challenge from some enemies. Yes, the demo was solid, but I never judge a full game by a demo - and neither should you. I'm not going to say something silly like "Skyrim-killer!" here, as both are completely different games in terms of visual style, gameplay and (of course) story. Nevertheless, if you find combat in Western RPG's too intentionally "realistic" and combat in most JRPGs too slow (or dislike turn-based combat in general), the mighty meaty world of Amalur is for you.

Syndicate 4-Player Co-op Trailer: It's On (and On and On and On)...
As I've said previously, if you're not interested in EA's upcoming Syndicate remake because it's "just another FPS", you're a bit crazy. Starbreeze Studios has absolutely captured the feel of the originals in the game - the move to a shooter with a four-player co-op from a isometric game where you controlled four agents not only makes sense, it does an even better job of immersing you in the action. In case you missed the other multiplayer trailers, I'll be an even nicer guy here and run a few later this week just to twist your arms a little more.

Moms vs. Dead Space 2 Multiplayer... Guess Who Wins?
Ah, EA... starting trouble again. Funny as hell video, though. Just keep Fox News away from this footage or else they'll all keel over at the "shocking"-ness of ot all (and FAIL yet again at their attempts to demonize gaming).

Dragon Age 2 "Champions" Trailer
Now, where would we all be without BioWare's games to shake things up in the RPG scene? DA2 is going to be another spectacular epic experience that's even better than the original. Hope you're all setting aside some quality time for this one, as it's going to be a while before you're coming up for air...

Dead Space 2 "Questions With Steve" Episode 5 (+ BONUS!)
Once again, Steve Papoutsis sits for a spell to speak about the horrors unleashed onto gamers in Dead Space 2 while also dropping news about some cool DLC. Nice and double nice...

Crysis 2 "Be Strong" Trailer
I really wish Crytek would make a role-playing game with their mighty game engine. As much as I'm going gaga over these Crysis 2 movies and screens I'm seeing, i can only imagine what sort of supremely rich fantasy worlds the team can cook up. Ah well... we'll just have to wait and see I guess. Hell, it might be a while, as the FPS as a genre isn't even close to dead yet...

Dead Space 2 Developer Diaries
Here's a look at two dev diaries from Visceral's sci-fi/horror hit featuring nearly everything you wanted to know about DS2 that shouldn't scare you off from playing this spectacularly scary game. Of course, playing it and not dropping dead from fright or simply straining your neck from continuously looking behind you to check for Necromorphs popping up from behind the couch? Well, that's all on you...

Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo Briefing
Lucky Xbox 360 owners are blasting through this MP demo already, so if you happen to be in a PS3-only household, here's what you're missing. Fear not, the game is coming to BOTH consoles and the PS3 version is supposed to have 3D support (which might explain why there's not a demo just yet).

Dead Space 2 "Questions With Steve" Episodes 1 - 4 (Minus 1 = 3)
Here's look at three of the four episodes featuring Dead Space 2's Executive Producer, Steve Papoutsis answering a bunch of Q's from the fans on the game's Facebook page. The other two videos are below the jump (of course) - somehow, Episode 3 has vanished, but I'm on the case (unless someone at EA mis-numbered these videos!)...

Dead Space 2/Dragon Age 2 "Sir Issac" Armor Bonus Trailer
Awesome way of getting interest in two entirely different EA titles, as BioWare and Visceral have teamed up to add this very cool Dead Space 2-themed armor unlock for Dragon Age 2. I'd already planned to snap up both, but this extra incentive should add a little more zing to Dragon Age's list of improvements. Now, if a few Necromorphs pop up in that game, that might be a little much, but it won't keep me from what looks like another 100-plus hours in yet another stellar BioWare RPG.

Crysis 2 Multiplayer Trailer Announcement
So far, it's 360 only for this demo that hits Xbox Live on January 25, but I'm hoping we see this on the PS3 as well (hell, the 3D single player mode demo from last year was quite something). Yeah, some of those PC die-hards are going nuts over "their" benchmark game series hitting the "lowly" consoles. But hell, Crytek ABSOLUTELY knows what they're doing with their tech and this is one of those games that demands to be played by a wide an audience as possible that can't afford to upgrade their PC's by spending a few hundred bucks on a new video card.
In English: stop bitching already and maybe PLAY the game before you condemn it.
Just a thought...

Mass Effect 2 PS3 Launch Trailer
It's here and if you own a PS3, it's a MUST-buy game (one of many on the console this year). Working on getting a review copy so I can spend another 80+ hours immersed in this grand epic (this time with better visuals and a bunch of extras)...
